1. Forget about covering all the essential readings
The textbooks from IBF and SCI are already over hundred of pages. If you are working and doing self study, you will likely not have enough time to cover the essential readings. Instead, you should consider taking mock papers, they test your understanding and helps you identify where are your weak areas.
2. You could consider courses to help you pass CMFAS examinations
There are many courses. But they cost a lot of money and take up a lot of time. Do they help? Maybe. But a lot depends on the trainer. Self study, on the other hand, depends on yourself. Better still, find people who are also studying for CMFAS and help each other. People are strong in different topics and together you can help each other.
3. Don’t memorize the review questions
They have limited use. Review questions at the end of the chapter are really simple questions to test your concepts. Real exam questions are more complex; a combination of a number of options. Real exam questions also test you on your time management skills. Thus, it is important that you get a sense of the type of questions to expect.
4. Exchange mock papers
One good way of learning is to get mock papers from peers or friends. You can also purchase them from third party websites. Rarely you get the same questions in the exam, but you will not get thrown off by the type of questions.
5. Preparation is key
Nothing beats having sufficient time to prepare for the exams. Start early. Take time off closer to the exam, if necessary. Don’t stress yourself. You need a clear mind and read fast.
